In case you missed our article last week on Chris Knight, Cody Canada, and Charlie Robison at the Glass Cactus, here is a video from the evening.  This is the song “Framed” by Chris Knight and really does a great job of giving you a feel for the evening.  Although, maybe you should put a beer in your hand before pressing PLAY.

If you enjoy Texas country music, three of the best performed on Thursday night at the glass cactus.  Just after the sun went down, Charlie Robison, Chris Knight, and Cody Canada came on stage to play an acoustic set.  This would be the last set of their month long acoustic tour.  And they did not disappoint.

All three put on great performances, but having not seen Chris Knight live before his songs were the most appealing to us.  He has

 such a raw, unfiltered sound that translates so well to an acoustic performance.  He really stole the show for us.  That is not to take anything away from Charlie Robison and Cody Canada who both had amazing performances as well.  There were a couple of times when Charlie Robison would even say, “I hate following Chris Knight in these things.”

Charlie Robison kicked off the show and got everyone fired up with We’re Gonna Have A Good Time.  He went on to play a lot of his great songs including New Years Day and closed the show out with an audience sing-a-long to My Hometown.

The highlight of the night for us came early on as Chris Knight played Rural Route.  He has so many great songs, but we are probably one of the few that like that one the best.  He went on to play the more popular It Ain’t Easy Being Me and Enough Rope later in the show.

 This acoustic show took us back almost a decade when Cross Canadian Ragweed would play places like Poor David’s Pub in Dallas or Jitterbug’s in Nacogdoches.  In a smaller setting you feel like you are so close to the music that you can touch it.   Cody Canada

announced that his band is taking a break for a while “to be Daddy’s” and he would be doing more of these acoustic type shows (hopefully with Mr. Knight and Mr. Robison).

In all, it was a wonderful night to be at the Glass Cactus enjoying the scenery on the patio and taking in one of the best live music shows we have seen in quite some time.

We think it is safe to say, we absolutely loved this event.

Let’s see.  Exquisite food, good drinks, great music, and an incredible atmosphere at the Glass Cactus made for a great party to raise money for a great cause.  All the proceeds from the annual Taste of the NFL event went to the North Texas Food Bank.

There were all kinds of sports memorabilia and other goodies up for silent auction.  It looked like Tiffany’s had set up camp with stacks of those little blue boxes all along one wall.  We were most interested in the guitar signed by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, but unfortunately our wallet did not open quite wide enough to get it.

On hand were a number of current and former Dallas Cowboys.   In addition to Marcus Spears, DeMarcus Ware, and Preston Pearson, we personally saw Jay Novacek, Russell Maryland, Charles Haley, Big Nate Newton, Deon Anderson, Daryl Johnston, Tony Casillas, and probably many others we did not see or are forgetting.  They announced there were 40 plus Super Bowls represented.

Did we also mention there were Cowboys Cheerleaders at the event?  Okay, maybe you saw the photo above.

The food pretty much stole the show in our opinion.  Anything you could possibly want was there from 25 of the areas best chefs/restaurants.  We loved what Del Frisco’s served up as well as the huge shrimp that Nick and Sam’s had upstairs.  You can see the full list of restaurants here.

The weather on the patio at the Glass Cactus was spectacular.  We were honestly blown away by the entire event.

On Sunday, April 25th, the Glass Cactus will play host to the 6th Annual Taste of The NFL.  This fundraiser will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.  In addition to DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears of the Dallas Cowboys, there will be appearances by Cowboys cheerleaders, music from Emerald City, and 22 gourmet food stations featuring chefs of some of DFW’s hottest area restaurants.

This sounds like an awesome event.  The event starts at 7:00 PM.

After hearing many rave reviews about Le Freak, we decided to head down to the Glass Cactus on Saturday night and experience the show for ourselves.

The Glass Cactus was packed, mostly with females, which we will get to later. The anticipation started to build around 9 pm as people filled the nightclub waiting for Le Freak to perform.

Clad in skintight pants and huge comical Afros, Le Freak blasted onto the stage around 9:30 pm. They promised to deliver two hours of “Solid Gold Disco” and did that and so much more.

It took us a couple of songs to make sure they were not lip-syncing, but after a while we realized they were not. Even with all the dance moves and jumping and high kicking around, they are still good at playing some of the best live 70′s disco music you will find anywhere.

They put on one heck of an entertaining show. The good news is if you missed them last night, they will be back at the Glass Cactus for the Le Freak New Year’s Eve Bash which I’m guessing will be another fantastic event.

Oh yeah, about the Cougars. If ever the term was more appropriate, we have not seen it because they were out at the Glass Cactus last night. They were prowling around the room like nothing we have ever seen.

Maybe it was the skintight pants on Le Freak that brought them out or maybe that was just a normal Saturday night at The Glass Cactus. We cannot be sure.

Either way, it was a fun, high-energy show that gave us an understanding of why this band has such a great following.
