Thanks for the information Warren. I agree with a lot of what you said. You can really enjoy most of the events without paying the $18 for the train ride.

I went up there early yesterday around 9:00 AM and it was not crowded at all. I would add to your tips by saying if you go on weekend go early!

It did look like fun. A lot of the kids were dressed up as train engineers. It was really fun (as a dad) to watch this.

But I think you are right. The train rides are overpriced in my opinion. I did not see the food prices, but those do seem high too.

My wife and kids went to this event yesterday. It's not organized very well and the food prices are rediculous. It was held in a very small space for the amount of people that were there.

For the thousands of children that were there they had a sandbox about 10' X 10'. lol.

You wait in line for a long time to take a picture of your child with Thomas and right before it was our turn the train left for one of the 25 minute rides. They left alot of us just standing there.

The 25 minute ride isn't a scenic trip. It's actually not a trip at all. They just back the train up a few miles then stop and pull back forward to the same place you left. The scenery is just parking lots, the back of buildings, a factory, some garbage in some woods, and the highway. lol. The best part of the "trip" is when a plane flew over. lol.

For all the people that were there wanting to spend money you would think they would have some ATM machines available. They had one in the gift shop that was out of order. lol. You had to walk a few blocks and find a bank to get to an ATM machine. So if you go TAKE CASH.

The food prices were crazy too.
Corn dog-$5.00
a Coke-$5.00
a funnel cake-$5.00
they were making a fortune on crappy carnival food. lol So take your own food and drinks.

There's not enough food venders or "attractions" or space to spread so many people out so it was really crowded and long lines for everything.

We waited for the "amazing puppet show" it was just a guy with a hand puppet. lol

The model trains were cool but they were in a really small tent with about a 3' walk area around the table between the table and the wall of the tent. Very tight quarters so only a few people at a time could get in there.

We still had a good time but spent way more money than it was worth. I know it's a business but you get the feeling that they're just trying to soak up as much money as they can and not really interested in wether or not you have a memerable time with thomas.

Tips-- Go on a weekday to avoid such big crowds. Take your own food or drinks or ALOT of money. Take cash. Be ready to stand in line alot. But your Thomas T-shirts and toys at Wal-Mart. lol

This place has probably the best BBQ in Grapevine hands down!!! I find it humorous that anyone would judge a restaurant on the outfits instead of the food and service, OR that anyone would judge another person because of their work uniform. you see more skin at the mall, swimming pool, Dallas Mavs, Cowboys, and Stars games, do you all call the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and the Mavs dancers "strippers" too??? do they not use the sex appeal to draw in more fans????

Comment on DFW Connector Project – We Were Wrong by Brian

The reason that you couldn't find any information about a comprehensive development agreement requiring toll lanes is because the requirement is that for the the project to be Design Build, not CDA, it must have toll lanes. Design Build and CDA are two totally different things. A Design Build project in a sense combines the design and construction of the contract and places them in the hands a an engineering firm and a contractor who work together from the start to fasttrack the project. In a normal situation, the owner (TxDOT) hires an engineer to design the project, then once the project is fully designed it is sent out for bid, then the low bidder constructs the project. With Design Build, the construction on the project can usually begin befor plans are 100% complete which can cut a large amount of time off the project. This is a method of construction widely accepted accross the US these days by many of the DOT's. A CDA is the situation that LBJ and North Tarrant Express will be constructed with. While they too do their own design, they are more a developer, much like a housing developer. They design and construct the project with their own funds, then recoup the funds by selling the project, or in the case of a highway, by tolling the project. DFW Connector is being built with a combination of Taxes, Stimulus Money, and the third component, the toll money, which will come from those tolled lanes.
