According to the city of Grapevine website:

The following boat ramps are CLOSED due to high water: Scott’s Landing, Lakeview North, Lakeview South, Sand Bass, Trawick, McPherson Slough and Katies Woods low water boat ramp. Ramps OPEN include: Dove Loop, Meadowmere, Vineyards Campground, and Katies Woods high water boat ramp.

It is spring time which means it is time to go fishing.  With all the rain you need to be aware of the boat ramp closures on Lake Grapevine.

We drove by the ramps at Lakeview Park on Monday, November 30th and they were still closed.  They are open today as are all Lake Grapevine boat ramps according to GrapevineTexas.gov.

Black bass fishing is fair.  You can catch plenty of smaller bass fairly easily.  Catching larger ones tends to be the problem.  Here is a quote from the Texas Fishing Forum that we agree with from November 25th, 2009:

I haven’t been out there in a couple weeks, but a good producing area is the silverlake area. Work the right side as you go into the marina. There won’t be many chunks, but there are keepers.

There is a channel that runs almost the whole length of the marina varying from 10ish – 25ft deep right down the middle of the right side. Toward the end of the marina, the channel gets wider and you can be in 20+ft deep about 10 feet from the shore. Also, there is a lot more hydrilla/weeds/vegetation to hold bass now that the lake is at conservation pool.

As you pass the last boat slip, the channel deepens again then gets shallow again. If you head to the bridge and work back in, you’ll be working water anywhere from 10ft deep to 1ft deep. Early morning I’ve gotten bites on topwaters and DD22 crankbaits along the channel edges. As the day progresses towards 9 or 10AM I’ve gotten hits on white/blue spinner baits in the area.

If you can not get many black bass bites you can easily find sand bass back in coves. We caught some really good sized sand bass a couple of weeks ago. These were larger than the black bass we caught that day.

We drove by Lake Grapevine yesterday and the lake level is dropping from where it was a week ago. It is still reported to be about three feet high however.

These pictures are from Katie’s Woods boat ramp. You can see that the water is still near the top of the regular boat ramp. The high water boat ramp at Katie’s Woods remains open.

There are a couple of bass tournaments on Lake Grapevine the weekend so we are hoping the lake level drops back down a little closer to normal by then. It would also be nice if this great weather holds up.

We do not need any more rain in Grapevine for the foreseeable future. Lake Grapevine is currently 5 feet above normal.

The high water boat ramp at Katie’s woods was busy Friday afternoon as it is the only open ramp on Lake Grapevine.

Someone in a North Texas Marine boat was out on Friday obviously trying to get an edge on his fellow anglers.

Here is the fishing report from the Dallas Morning News for anyone that can get on the lake:

Dallas Morning News:

GRAPEVINE: Water off color to murky around the creeks; 62-67 degrees; 1.05′ high. Black bass are slow to fair on dark soft plastics. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs over planted brush piles. White bass are fair to good on slabs and Rooster Tails. Catfish are fair on prepared baits and nightcrawlers.
