Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange (GRACE) held its annual night golf tournament this past Friday evening. The event raises funds to feed children and families in need in the Grapevine area. Last year, GRACE provided over 30,000 lunches for families in need.
The golf tournament was held at night at Grapevine Golf Course. The pre-match festivities included a barbeque dinner, putting contest, and silent auction. The start of the event was also kicked off by an impressive live bag pipe preamble.
Shortly after dusk, over 100 golfers rode out onto Grapevine Golf Course to compete in a 9-hole tournament. Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that Grapevine Golf Course is completely unlighted at night. So the golfers navigated the treacherous course only with a sliver of moonlight and by the light of glow sticks which lined the tee boxes and flag sticks. Golfers also use glow-in-the-dark balls so that they can (hopefully) find some of them after long drives.
Speaking of long drives, congratulations to Cory Halliburton for capturing his second straight long-drive title. We were happy enough to witness this one.
Mark your calendars now. The 2013 Drive into the Night Golf Tournament supporting GRACE is already scheduled for March 22, 2013. You can find out more information about the tournament at Driveintothenight.com.
The 2012 event was completely sold out.
