For the last two years, Grapevine Texas Online has been providing high quality news and information about the city of Grapevine, Texas.  This article is designed to explain where we came from, where we are now, and our goals for the future.

Where We Came From

A little over two years ago, we hatched the idea to create a website about Grapevine, Texas.  After all, we live here.  We enjoy a lot of the activities and events here.  Who better to tell the story of Grapevine than its own residents?  Our goal was a simple one:  Build the best website about Grapevine, Texas that can be found on the world wide web.

As you can imagine, the first year was more difficult than we ever imagined.  We figured out early on that creating the best website about Grapevine, Texas would not be easy.  But we finished the year with around 10,000 visitors per month and decided that was enough success for the first year.  But we were still a ways away from achieving our goal.

Where We Are Now

There is an old business or life cycle adage of Crawl – Walk – Run.  If we look at GTO in those terms, we feel like we are still in, but nearing our exit of the crawl stage.  We are still learning at a rapid pace all the in’s and out’s of the internet, social media, and all the things involved with owning a website.

In the last year, we have reached some major mile stones.  We launched two new sites.  One succeeded – Lake Grapevine.  One failed – Grapevine Texas Deals.  But we learned a lot along the way.

Lake Grapevine is now the sister site to GTO.  It launched back in January and has exceeded our expectations in every way.  Part of the success is due to the experience we had in launching GTO. With Lake Grapevine, we did not make some of the same early mistakes.  Now in fact, our Lake Grapevine site consistently ranks #2 or #3 in Google for the search term “Lake Grapevine.”  That is quite an accomplishment.

In the mean time, GTO has continued to grow.  We surpassed a major hurdle earlier this summer by growing past the 30,000 visitor per month mark.  And even though we are edging closer to our goal, we still do not feel like we have the best website about Grapevine, Texas.  (Although we do have a very, very good one at this point.)

In the last year, we also offered ads on our websites through Google Adsense.  It has been a great experience as we start to develop advertising options.

Where We Are Going

We are setting new goals for the next year.  We think that half-a-million visitors in 2012 is possible.  And we are setting a goal of 1 million visitors in 2013.  We plan on getting there by reaching our original goal:  Build the best website about Grapevine, Texas that can be found on the world wide web.

We are also going to spend more time looking for businesses in the community to partner with.  As our visitor, subscriber, and social media counts continue to grow we offer a very unique relationship between local businesses and the community.

And we are not stopping there.  We are working  on some of our most ambitious plans yet.  Obviously, we cannot mention all of our specific plans here.  As we mentioned early on, we feel like we are getting close to exiting the crawling stage.

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone that has supported this site as a free email subscriber, a like on facebook, a twitter follower, or with comments, emails, notes, or visits.  We appreciate every one of you.
