Hwy 121 / 114 at Main Street Closed this Weekend

For the first time since the DFW Connector construction began one year ago, Highway 114 / 121 in Grapevine will be shut down for an entire weekend.  This weekend 114 / 121 will close to allow for the demolition of the east side of the Main Street bridge.

According to the DFW Connector website:

When:  Friday, March 25th at 8 pm until Monday, March 28th at 6 am.

Full highway closures on SH 114/121 at Main Street for demolition of the east side of Main Street bridge. Main Street Bridge will also be closed at this time. Traffic will be detoured to the east and westbound SH 114/121 frontage roads.

You can find the detour map here.

Basically traffic will be re-routed onto service streets near Main Street to get around the highway closure. You might consider mapping some alternate routes altogether using Google maps or other mapping services if you have to travel through Grapevine this weekend.

We are very interested to see how this will impact the Thomas the Train event this weekend in Grapevine.  This is a very popular event for kids and families that occurs in downtown Grapevine every year.

We are happy that the DFW Connector website does an excellent job communicating lane closures.  Hopefully those visiting Grapevine this weekend will get the news ahead of time so they can plan for traffic delays.

  1. Every effort is being made to communicate with those attending the Day Out With Thomas event this weekend. Point-by-point driving directions that avoid the construction zone will be emailed to all who have pre-purchased tickets. This same info will be posted on the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau website later today. In addition, there will be lots of additional directional signage throughout Grapevine directing Thomas visitors to the library, where complimentary parking is available.

  2. I tried coming through grapevine yesterday on 121. It took about an hour and a half longer than normal. The best course may involve avoiding 121 in grapevine this weekend if at all possible.
