Mimi’s Cafe – Our Breakfast Review
On Sunday morning, we set out looking for a good breakfast. Our adventure took us quickly over to Mimi’s Cafe which is a local breakfast hotspot.
Upon entering the restaurant, we are greeted with a blank stare from the hostess. A simple “Hello” or “Good Morning” would have been fine or possibly even “How many will be dining with us today.” Maybe it is just a pet peeve, but we like to be greeted when we enter an eating establishment. Is that not the main job of the hostess?
We finally said, “It will be three of us today.” She then spoke telling us it will be five to ten minutes which was odd because there were plenty of open tables. We then proceed to take a seat in the waiting area and within sixty seconds the hostess calls our name to let us know our table is ready. Why did they even have us sit down?
We then get to pet peeve number two. We reach our table and not only is the table surface still wet, but the bench seats are wet too. This is a fairly large disappointment in our book.
The final pet peeve is that it took our waiter at least five minutes to reach our table. The hostess at least took our drink order since the waiter was too busy to make it over.
When the waiter finally reached our table, he did not bother to say hello either. He decided to go with the very rushed, “So have you decided on what you’ll have?” This is not really a good start.
When the food arrived the French toast was very good as were the scrambled eggs. The bacon was marginal in that it was a little chewy. Maybe they prepare all the bacon in advance? At least that is the way it tasted.
If we were giving grades, which we rarely do, I’d give Mimi’s a C-. Good service is just as important as the quality of food to us and Mimi’s just seemed to be lacking on Sunday.

This must be typical of Mimi’s Cafe. We were going to try the one in Fort Worth at Bryant Irving Rd. and got the same treatment. We thought the food must be good because they usually have lots of cars in the parking lot. We were hungry and it was not a particularly busy hour, but we were told it would be a 15 minute wait from a hostess that was not very friendly. There were lots of tables available. We waited about 5 minutes and then decided to go to one of the more hospitable restaurants in this same area.
Great posts! I really like it.
